NBA Picks Week 12

NBA Saturday: Houston Rockets vs. San Antonio Spurs

The New Jersey Nets bay have a .500 record as of this writing, but they are only one of six teams to have a winning record in the eastern conference.  They started the season slow, leaving many Nets fans to fear that they may be trading Jason Kidd, but they have turned it around lately, winning seven out of their last ten ballgames.  Also, Kidd is still comfortably in New Jersey where he leads the team in steals, assists, and rebounds.  Remember, Kidd is a point guard, leading your team in rebounds is quite a feat for a point guard, but maybe not one so prone to getting triple-doubles.  Leading scorer Richard Jefferson is currently listed as day-to-day on the injury report, but all signs point to yes that he will be back for this game.

The Suns are also winners of seven of their last ten, and once again continue to be one of the best teams in the west.  Fans of the Suns are finally hoping this can be the year they make it to the NBA finals, but being in such a good conference, and seeing they are already falling behind the pack, it might be a hard thing to expect.  Steve Nash has the team riding on his shoulders, leading his team, and the league with 12 assists a contest.

This game arguably features the best two point guards in the game.  Being these teams only meet twice a year it’s a treat anytime you see them square off against each other.  I will lean towards the Suns in this one.

NBA Sunday: New Jersey Nets vs. Phoenix Suns

Much to the chagrin of many New York Knick fans, Isaiah Thomas is still the coach, and the team is a ship that is sinking fast.  The effort of the team has been questioned throughout every media outlet, and for good reason.  At certain times during this season the Knicks have appeared to quit in the middle of the game.  Also, Thomas has looked beside himself as of late, often just sitting in his chair the entire game, with almost a look of disgust covering his face.  As of this writing Thomas is still the coach, but don’t be surprised if he isn’t by this game.

The Detroit Pistons on the other hand look like a team on a mission.  A few weeks ago they traveled to Boson and beat the seemingly unbeatable Celtics in one of the early candidates for game of the year.  Since then the Pistons have been on a roll, winning ten games in a row as of this writing.  The Pistons were getting a wrap that they only played when they “needed to,” but I think this recent resurgence suggests otherwise.

As mentioned, the Knicks are a team in trouble, and the Pistons are just going to add to it on national television.  Richard Hamilton, Chauncy Billups, and Rasheed Wallace are on a roll, and you can bet it’s not going to stop here.  My prediction is that the game might even be embarrassing, and that by somewhere around the middle of the first quarter the boo birds will be out.
