UFC 80: Rapid Fire - BJ Penn vs. Joe Stevenson (for UFC lightweight title)
UFC 80 will kick-off the New Year at the 11,000-seat Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle,
England, on January 19, 2008.
BJ Penn will face submissions expert Stevenson in what is set to be the main
event for the show in Newcastle. Las Vegas native Joe Stevenson is 32-7-0 and
squares up against Hawaiian Penn (11-4-1) for the interim title.
In the second feature fight of the night Gabriel Gonzaga, fresh off his loss to
Randy Couture will take n Fabrico Werdum.
Also confirmed for UFC 80 is a welterweight battle between Irish-American Marcus Davis
and Anglo-Frenchman Jess Liaudin.
Former pro boxer Davis is on an incredible 10 fight winning streak and is coming off two
hugely impressive wins in Belfast and London. Likewise, the London-based Liaudin, a 19
fight MMA veteran, is in the form of his life and has won both his previous UFC fights
in the very first round.
UFC 80 is scheduled to touch down at the Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle, England, a northern city
with a population of only 260,000, but well known throughout the country for its vibrant nightlife
and personality. The 11,000-seat Metro arena is a choice venue, as it has hosted numerous World
Wrestling Entertainment events and will likely attract an MMA-savvy audience.
