College Football Pick for Thursday September, 20th
NCAA Thursday Game of the Day: (20) Texas A&M vs. Miami, FL
As many sports fans remember last year, the Miami Hurricanes got into an on field brawl with Florida International University. Last week the two teams met again, but this time all was well as Miami went on to win 23-9. A week before that though, Miami got shellacked at Oklahoma, going down 51-13 in their biggest loss in school history. Their task isn’t much better this Friday as they host 20th ranked Texas A&M, who is looking to go 4-0 in the early season.
The Aggies haven’t exactly had the toughest schedule this year, defeating Montana State, Fresno State, and UL Monroe. The Fresno State game is an early candidate for game of the year, finishing 47-45 in double overtime. The problem with that though, is that the Aggies weren’t expected to have much trouble with a team like Fresno State, and they were playing at home. However, it seems every team, no matter how good, has a game or two like that a year where they have to fight tooth and nail to get the victory. Also, the important thing is they got the victory.
The last time the Aggies started 4-0 their coach was Bear Bryant, way back in 1956. I expect Bear to be matched in this game. The Aggies offense, led by quarterback Stephen McGee and running back Mike Goodson will be too much for the young Miami squad. Miami doesn’t appear to have the speed or talent they have had in the past, and I think the A&M squad will beat Miami here by the 10-17 point range, way more then the three points they are currently favored.

NCAA Football Game of the Week: (12) South Carolina vs. LSU (2)
“The old ball coach,” Steve Spurrier has really shown he can coach a college football team. After successful years at the University of Florida, followed by not so successful years as the Washington Redskins coach, he has his South Carolina Gamecocks undefeated and ready to roar against the LSU Tigers. However, the LSU squad is playing incredibly inspired football, allowing only one touchdown in three games and averaging about 46 points per game, including over 40 points in all of their outings. Their “toughest” challenge of the year so far was when Virginia Tech came to town. By the end of the first half LSU had a 24-0 game, and for all intents and purposes the game was over. The Tigers have followed up that performance with a 44-0 performance, led by first time starting quarterback Ryan Perrilloux (304 yards passing and three touchdowns.)
South Carolina’s most impressive win came two weeks ago at Georgia in a 16-12 victory. The Gamecocks were slight underdogs in this game, but as you can imagine they will be huge underdogs in this one. The current line has LSU as 16.5 point favorites. South Carolina will need to play better offense if they even hope to have a prayer against the number two rated team in the country. They did put up 38 points last week, but that was against unheralded South Carolina State. Quarterback Blake Mitchell has been steady, but hasn’t been overpowering throwing for 321 yards and three touchdowns in the early season. South Carolina is a hard team to get a grasp on, because one week they look average and the next week they are beating Georgia at Georgia.
My guess here is that the speed, power, and overall better talent at key positions with put LSU over in this one. If the Gamecocks defense can find away to slow down the rushing tandem of Jacob Hester and Keiland Williams they might have a shot, but with LSU playing at home, on top of the other things mentioned, I like LSU to win this one by 20 points, at least.
