Monday Night Football Week 12
(6-3) Tennessee Titans vs. (4-5) Denver Broncos
This weeks Monday Night Football game features a pair of teams that have had a bit of a roller coaster ride start to their seasons. The Tennessee Titans ride has been a bit smoother, winning six of their first nine games, but they have still lost a couple of games you’d think they could have won. Most recently, they lost to Jacksonville this past week 28-13. Vince Young actually had his best passing game, yardage wise, throwing for 247 yards and a touchdown. But he actually threw four two costly interceptions in route to losing to divisional foes Jacksonville. The Broncos started their season 2-0 then dropped three in a row, and have now gone 2-2 in their past four. They are coming off a good win on the road against the Kansas City Chiefs, but the Chiefs were out top running back Larry Johnson. The Broncos are still very much in the running for a playoff position, with divisional foes, the San Diego Chargers, starting off at a mediocre 5-4 start. With another good run, starting against the Titans on Monday night the Broncos could take the lead in the AFC West in no time.
As mentioned, Vince Young is coming off his best throwing performance, but would still like to get the win. Young is also a lot more accurate than years past, completing 60.4 percent of his passes. Young also continues to be a dual threat, running for more than twenty yards in all but two games (not including the game he missed due to injury). Altogether Young has scored eight times. The Titans are gaining the reputation for having a ton of close games, as in they are usually trailing before coming back to win most of their games. With a proven winner like Young, it’s no wonder they are always in the game until the final whistle blows.
Denver quarterback Jay Cutler is still getting used to NFL defenses, and his up and down performances show that. For the year Cutler has passed for 1882 yards and nine touchdowns. But, he has also thrown nine interceptions. The second year player is also completing 65 percent of his passes. It was his accuracy that made him one of the top players in the draft a couple of years ago, so fans are hoping the touchdowns will start to out weigh the interceptions soon.
You would think that the Broncos would have a home field advantage in this one, but they are only 2-3 their. As mentioned a few times, the Broncos are hard to gauge, so it’s anyone’s guess as to which team will show up under the big lights of Monday Night Football. Both of these teams are used to close games, and I expect this one won’t be any different. In a semi-upset I’m picking the Broncos to win this one by a late field goal from the leg of Jason Elam. Final score: 24-21.
