Monday Night Football Week Three

Tennessee Titans vs. New Orleans Saints

What appeared to be a highly attractive Monday night football game at the beginning of the season now looks a little dryer as we see it will pit a 1-1 Titans squad against a struggling 0-2 Saints team.   To be fair, the Titans have played well in both games, including losing 22-20 last week to defending Super Bowl champions Indianapolis Colts.  The Titans had the ball with 1:38 seconds left and down by two, but couldn’t get anything after it.  But if you ask any coach in the league, they would have been happy with a chance to win on the last drive of the game.  While Titans fans would like to see more out of the quarterback Vince Young, they also realizes he usually finds a way to keep his team in the game.  His accuracy has already improved this year, hovering at just above 62 percent.  Also, the rushing duo of Chris Brown and Lendale White has been solid, but they have scored only one touchdown.

The Saints are a team that shocked the football world last year coming out of nowhere to advance to the NFC championship game.  This year though, they are getting blown out left and right.  A loss against the Colts seems acceptable, but to travel to Tampa and get beat by them has left a sour taste in many fans mouth.  The Saints are hoping that a little home cooking will be enough to get Drew Brees and Reggie Bush on track.  It’s hard to explain the Saints sudden decline because their team hasn’t seemed to change much between this year and last year.  The offense is surely due for an explosion soon, and that’s why the bookies have installed the Saints as an early 4.5 point favorite.  This is a hard game to pick because on paper it looks like the Saints offense should blow the Titans defense away, but then you see the Colts were only able to score 22 on the Titans, and struggled mightily in the process.  I will pick the “underdog” in the game.  I think Vince Young and company will use a combination of power football and finesse to sneak by the Saints by a field goal or less.
